A one-to-one conversation with 1-3 YMCA residents aged 18-35. The topic is the world of work and how to approach finding work. The method is an informal 20-minute conversation about how the guest found their job(s). It’s relaxed, not prescriptive, and up to the resident to ask any work-related questions they like. Although one-to-one, the conversations take place in a public area at the YMCA and are supervised by a member of Worktree staff.
To get your conversation started, the guest could ask any or all of these questions:
-
How do you enjoy spending your time?
-
What would you say your strengths are?
-
What kind of work are you looking for?
-
What kind of person would you like to meet to help your career journey?
Great if you can help the YMCA resident at the end of your conversation to agree an action point - something they would like to do to go forward with their job-seeking, e.g. research a website, visit an employer's premises, follow up with an email, contact someone else for a conversation like this one...
Who are the participants? Career WorkOut will introduce job-seeking homeless young adults (18-35 year olds) who are YMCA residents to work guests from different work backgrounds so they can find out what it’s really like in different jobs and learn about employabailty skills.
